View From a Blue Moon is a surf movie, so how has it hustled its way onto the Idenna blog? Well, every now and then a game changer comes along and reinvents how we think and what we think. View From a Blue Moon does just that.
Idenna is a creative agency with storytelling at the core of everything we do, VFABM has raised the bar, not just for surf movies and sports documentaries but in my opinion, storytelling in film as a whole. Every single shot is crafted, framed and produced with intense and loving attention to detail. The soundtrack is challenging in places (who knew Jack Johnson could still sound relevant) but in a way, that engages and invigorates. The sound design is flawless, even the use of typography and graphics is stunning. From the hypnotising opening shots featuring underwater RED footage at Pipeline to the closing credits, this film features by far the best cinematography the surf world has ever seen. But is it this that makes VFABM a game changer?
No, I think what makes this film so remarkable is that there doesn’t appear to be a single compromise made on this production, from start to finish, it is clearly a fine piece of storytelling crafted with love.
We haven’t researched the production budget for VFABM and despite a geeky interest, we will refrain with no real need to. However this film was financed, it has already delivered an amazing return on investment. It is better than anything that has gone before and has raised the bar for that reason alone, everyone associated will see sufficient benefit.
